Karen E. Nunley, Licensed Acupuncturist, provides acupuncture to improve your physical and emotional health.
She is a full-time, professional practitioner with a M.S. in Oriental Medicine and a Diplomate in Acupuncture from the National Certification Commision for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. A native Austinite, she graduated from the first class of the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin in 1996 and has been in private practice ever since.
Recognized as a pioneer advocate for the expansion of acupuncture and oriental medicine in the state of Texas, Karen was given the "Founder of Texas Acupuncture" award by the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1997.
Since 2000, Karen has been a consultant to the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners, providing expert advice for complaints filed against acupuncturists licensed in Texas. (I am proud to say this profession has had relatively few complaints filed!)
An active member of her community, Karen has worked closely with the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin (AOMA) and the People’s Community Clinic (PCC) to develop the first AOMA Student Clinic to offer acupuncture services to the working poor of Austin. As the first Clinical Supervisor, Karen supervised the AOMA students while they provided acupuncture services for PCC's patients.
Karen completed the Hospice Austin volunteer training program and has worked with them to provide palliative and end of life care using acupuncture to address physical discomfort like pain and nausea and to relieve anxiety, depression and nausea.
She has served in the following capacities:
- Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, Board of Governors, 1997 to 2010
- ACN Group, Credentialing Committee, 2008 to 2010
- Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Board of Directors, from 1997 to 2005
- Volunteer, Hospice Austin
Karen loves hanging out with her husband, Steve and their dog, Maya Papaya, organic gardening, pumping iron, making jewelry, crocheting and watching the sun set and full moons rise.
